Coastline
The Flow of Tides - A visual odyssey, which follows the flood tide as it flows around the northerly coastline of the UK.
The landscape of mountains, fields and even our towns is one that is relatively stable and slow to evolve. However, the repeated action of the tide and weather on our coastline provides us with an ever changing scene. Our efforts to withstand this evolution are often ineffective. Each new tide will slowly work at the shoreline’s weak points, relentless in its efforts to force change upon us, water is the most powerful force on our landscape. As the tide rises and falls the course of the coastline is continually being redrawn. This sequence of photographs follow the flood tide as it flows around the UK. The work is focused on four locations: Lancashire, Cumbria, Scotland's West Coast and Yorkshire.
Lancashire – Fluid and Undefined
Cumbria – Industry and Heritage
West Scotland – Longevity and Durability
Yorkshire – Change and Evolution
Further work can also be seen in the Loch Linnhe, Sound of Barra, Garlieston Bay and Chanonry Point galleries. A selection of this work is now available as a book direct from online publisher Blurb. A smaller, concise edition is also available.
